The American Thinker just published an excellent article by Bruce Deitrick Price about “Sages on Stages Desperately Needed.”

Price summarizes the pitfalls in supposedly “new” education methods being ushered in as a result of the Common Core State Standards.

The problem is, these education ideas are not new.

Worse, these education philosophies were already tried right here in Kentucky and proved to not work well for lots of kids. Our older readers will recall hearing about teachers becoming a “guide on the side instead of a sage on the stage” during the early days of KERA. A 1993 document from the Kentucky Department of Education I recently discussed put it this way:

“Teachers are viewed as resources, coaches, and co-learners, allowing children to make choices and share in decision making.”

It sounds good, but it didn't work.

So, check Price’s article out, because these Common Core related, uninspiring education fads are about to be pushed, again, in too many schools in Kentucky.
