Kentucky was the first state in the nation to adopt the Common Core State Standards, doing so in February of 2010, nearly four months before the standards were even complete.

Kentucky was also the first state to really force Common Core into its classrooms; it did so by initiating Common Core aligned testing in reading and mathematics beginning in the 2011-12 school term. Thus, the state’s 2015 results from its Common Core tests, known as KPREP tests, provides the longest running Common Core trend line in the nation.

And, that trend line is becoming a concern in the Bluegrass State.

Sims responds honestly about the state’s “flat” trend lines for math and reading performance:
