Dr. Vicki Alger is a real expert on school choice issues such as Education Savings Accounts and the benefits to children. She is a research fellow at the Independent Institute in Oakland California, but she knows how to explain things in simple language we all can understand.

We already posted Dr. Alger’s informative presentation on October 12, 2015 to the Kentucky Legislature’s Interim Joint Committee on Education. Now, in part two of this two-part YouTube series, you can hear Dr. Alger respond to specific questions from our legislators about various features of Education Savings Accounts.

Without question, Kentucky offers one of the very lowest levels of student and parent school choice of any state in the nation. With charter schools now available in 42 states and with other options like Education Savings Accounts now available in multiple states, as well, parents elsewhere have an ever growing list of options to get the best suited education support for their children.

Here in Kentucky parents have virtually no options other than to place their children in the one-size-must-fit-all traditional public school system. This Kentucky situation does a poor job of meeting the needs of many of our students, and it is time for Kentucky to join the rest of the country in offering more options in education for students and parents.

One more note: at about 19 minutes and 35 seconds into this video Kentucky State Representative Linda Belcher (D) Sheperdsville, a former school teacher, comments that students with disabilities and Individual Education Plans (IEPs) are getting great service in her local Bullitt County Public School System.

Might I suggest that Rep. Belcher should check the latest results from the 2015 Unbridled Learning scores that came out on October 1, 2015? I might have more on that tomorrow.
