Making Kentucky a More Competitive Commonwealth

Why is it that Kentucky’s neighboring states seem to advance while Kentucky lags behind? Why is Frankfort spending more, yet we see fewer jobs, less retirement security, and increasing tax burdens? Most importantly, how can we change course and make the Commonwealth one of the best places for business?

The Bluegrass Institute for Public Policy Solutions is proud to announce an event designed to equip you with free-market solutions to help get the state back on track, as well as communicate these ideas to policy stakeholders and legislators. To assist with this, we have again enlisted an academic and university-based partner, the Mercatus Center at George Mason University.

The half-day seminar will feature the following speakers:

• Mercatus Center Vice President and Former New Zealand Cabinet Minister Maurice McTigue, speaking about strategies to make Kentucky more competitive and create jobs.

• Mercatus Center Senior Fellow Matthew Mitchell, speaking about how state governments face “two ways to compete” for jobs and investment, and why universally fair tax and regulatory policies are better than picking winners and losers.

• Bluegrass Institute scholar, and University of Kentucky Professor Dr. John Garen, speaking about how Kentucky’s budget compares to similar states, and how free money from the Federal government can hurt a state’s competitiveness.

There is no charge to attend this event and lunch will be provided.
