Guest Blog: Are our children safe at school?
There have been 44 school shootings since the deadly assault 14 months ago at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. There was a school shooting nationwide, on average, every other day last month.
Four teachers at Newtown were murdered standing in front of their children while shielding them with no means of defense. Action must be taken now before a tragedy like this occurs in our schools.
The Protecting Our Students & Teachers (POST) program offers a plan to mitigate the active shooter threat in schools. POST is based on the highly successful commercial airline "armed pilot" program and has widespread law enforcement support, including the sheriffs in Boone, Kenton, Campbell and Grant counties.
