Some at the Herald-Leader might lose their lunch over the idea that they sound like the Bluegrass Institute, but their recent article, “Analysis: Fayette schools stall on achievement gap,” does exactly that. The article presents data on the white minus black achievement gaps in math and reading in each of the district’s high schools, concluding:

“Lexington high schools have been unable to close large, sometimes enormous, achievement gaps between minority students and their peers despite years of effort, according to a Herald-Leader analysis of the latest test results.”

Yup, definitely sounds like us.

Can anyone in Lexington say “school choice?” Since the traditional school system has failed to produce during more than a quarter of a century of KERA-enabled school reforms, it’s certainly about time to add this term to all Lexingtonians’ vocabulary.
