Legislative panel session on charter schools coincides with Bluegrass Institute's campaign for school choice

As the Bluegrass Institute kicks off its "Legalize School Choice" campaign, the groundswell of support for charter schools in the commonwealth has resulted in an impromptu legislative panel session in Frankfort today on that very topic.

The panel session, prompted by Hal Heiner - long-time Bluegrass Institute supporter and founder of the brand new Kentucky Charter Schools Association - will be an attempt to educate Kentucky House Democrats on the importance of charter schools in providing alternative means for innovation and excellence in Kentucky kids' schooling. Charter legislation has been introduced and largely supported in Kentucky's Senate in recent years, but has languished in the House, where bosses in the Education Committee have refused to allow any substantial school choice legislation to be susceptible to a vote.

Last month, Jim Waters, President of the Bluegrass Institute spoke at a Kentucky Charter School Association meeting on the importance of school choice. You can find his remarks here: http://www.bipps.org/bluegrass-institutes-jim-waters-on-charter-schools/
