On the heels of the release of our "Bang for the Buck" report, this past week Pastor Jerry Stephenson and the Black Alliance for Educational Options (BAEO) hosted a screening of the film, Waiting for Superman, with stimulating conversation to follow.

The BAEO has long been a proponent of school choice in Kentucky, one of only ten states without any charter school legislation and a state with some of the least school choice in the country. This lack of school choice most affects those who cannot afford to procure a sound education in any other way: low income and minority students. Waiting for Superman chronicles the journeys of five different low-income families who seek to provide a brighter future for their kids through educational choice.

Looking around Jefferson County, one would not have a difficult time pinpointing five thousand families going through the same kind of battle.

A second screening of the movie will be hosted by the BAEO this Friday, September 19th in Lexington, KY at Imani Baptist Church with Pastor Willis Garnett Polk. After the movie, our very own Jim Waters will host a panel discussing the need for school choice in Kentucky.
