KYTC awarded $5.8 million in single-bid contracts exceeding their engineer's estimates in May
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) awarded 5 single-bid contracts exceeding their internal estimates to Kentucky’s highway contractors in May. The single-bid awards for the month totaled $5,879,585, costing taxpayers $338,404 above and beyond the estimated price for those projects.
Hinkle Contracting secured three of the five single-bid awards last month. Hinkle’s haul totaled $4,831,863, including a $4.3 million award for “safety improvements on various routes in Pulaski County.”
Walker Construction was awarded a single-bid contract for a US 460 project in Menifee County. Walker’s $608,608 bid exceeded KYTC’s project estimate by $19,876.
Mountain Enterprises secured a $439,114 single-bid award for a KY 699 project in Perry County, exceeding the project estimate by $27,883.
KYTC rejected three single-bid offers from the industry in May.
L-M Asphalt Partners was denied a $2.69 million bid for “safety improvements along KY 490” in Laurel County. Their bid was $461,646 higher than the engineer’s estimate for the job.
KYTC rejected two single-bid offers totaling $1.89 million from Mountain Enterprises for projects in Perry and Letcher counties.
