Bill to create more rational teacher tribunal system becomes law in Kentucky

The Kentucky Legislative Research Commission’s “Bill Watch” just e-mailed that Senate Bill 8 from the current legislative session has just been signed by Governor Bevin and is now law.

This bill makes important improvements in the existing, rather problematic Kentucky Teacher Tribunal System. This includes increasing the professional qualifications of tribunal members and assuring that teachers and others receive appropriate protections under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, or any other applicable federal law.

The tribunal system has been a concern for BIPPS for some time, and we are hopeful these changes will result in a better system going forward.
