Hat tip to Henderson Co. Schools for their student home visits
We hear from parents all the time about how, after years of supposed emphasis on school outreach, they still feel alienated and unwelcome in their children’s schools.
So, I was really pleased to read about the annual home visit “blitz” in the Henderson County school system.
Having teachers first talk with students and their parents on the family’s home turf in a friendly meeting is a much better way to establish communications than waiting until a problem shows up during the school year.
I know Henderson County isn’t alone in this policy, but I believe it is far from universal across the state. Hopefully, that will change. Hats off to the education staff at Henderson County for doing a real parent and student outreach!
