Innes appears on KET’s Kentucky Tonight this evening

Topic: New high school graduation requirements

The Bluegrass Institute’s staff education analyst, Richard Innes, appears tonight on Kentucky Tonight to discuss the state’s new high school graduation requirements. These pending requirements will establish new quality control standards for the state’s standard high school diploma. Those requirements include new minimum competency testing in math and reading. Graduates must also meet at least one of the 11 new adult life Transition Ready requirements which include things like obtaining minimum scores on the ACT college entrance test or qualification for an industry standard skills certificate such as a welder’s certificate.

Scheduled to appear with Innes on the show are:

Kentucky Commissioner of Education Wayne Lewis

Mike Stacy, Superintendent, Beechwood Independent School District

Brigitte Blom Ramsey, executive director of the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence

The show, which has an unusual format for Kentucky Tonight, airs at 8 pm and will be split into two sections. Part one of tonight’s program will include candidates from the 1st and 2nd congressional district house race. Part two will cover the high school graduation requirements discussion and is anticipated to start around 8:30 pm.
