News release: Poll shows Kentuckians overwhelmingly support right-to-work
Poll headlines grassroots campaign to promote labor freedom

(LEXINGTON, Ky.) – A new poll released today by the Bluegrass Institute for Public Policy Solutions as part of National Employee Freedom Week reveals that Kentuckians overwhelmingly support making Kentucky the 25thright-to-work state in America.
The poll found that 80 percent of Kentuckians favor allowing individual workers the right to make their own decisions regarding union membership and paying dues – including allowing current employees to leave unions without force or penalty.
“It doesn’t surprise me that Kentuckians, which historically have greatly valued their independence, want the freedom to choose their own path regarding labor-union membership,” Bluegrass Institute president Jim Waters said. “The strong support for a right-to-work policy as indicated by this poll gives lawmakers the political confidence they need to move forward during the 2015 legislative session to assure and protect the individual liberty of all Kentucky workers.”
The poll was conducted by Google Consumer Surveys between July 11 and 31 and has a 3.76 percent margin of error. It asked 500 Kentuckians: “Should employees have the right to decide, without force or penalty, whether to join or leave a labor union?”
The Bluegrass Institute and 67 other organizations in 40 states, including the Heritage Foundation and National Right to Work Committee, have formed a coalition to promote labor freedom for all workers by observing National Employee Freedom Week (NEFW) this week.
The NEFW coalition released a poll on Sunday showing more than 82 percent of Americans nationwide support a right-to-work policy.
“Efforts like the NEFW have resulted in union workers being better informed about their rights as well as giving right-to-work campaigns – like the one being led by the Bluegrass Institute in Kentucky – the momentum to succeed,” Waters said.
