Search for new education commissioner will be costly

The contract for a search firm to help find a new commissioner of education for Kentucky has been approved by the legislature’s Government Contract Review Committee. This isn’t going to be cheap.

In part driven by fears of repeating the disastrous commissioner search debacle of 2007, the new search contract will apparently include more records and background checking. That could drive the costs of the search up to as high as $117,000 according to CN|2.Still, the word is that much of the search will be conducted in closed meetings not open to the public. That could set the stage for some unpleasant surprises once the public is finally let in on the person selected, which is exactly the scenario that let to what happened in 2007.
