Taxpayers should not be forced to donate pension funds to charity

Senate President David Williams, R-Burkesville, has said that if he accepts a judgeship, which would double his salary and spike his legislative pension, he would donate the increased pension income to charity.

That's all fine and good, but it's still going to cost taxpayers. The only way it would not is if Sen. Williams decides to retire rather than just resign his Senate seat.

Why is this so hard for these guys to understand? Forcing taxpayers to give the amount of an increased legislative pension is no better than forcing them to give it to an individual.

Actually, the best thing would be for the state legislature to rid the commonwealth of the scourge of a corrupt legislative pension system altogether. And while lawmakers are at it, they should make it retroactive.
