Bowling Green’s Daily News sounds just like us, saying ‘Black students are being left behind in our schools. That's not right.’
The latest opinion piece from the Daily News, “Black students are being left behind in our schools. That's not right.” sounds exactly like the sorts of things BIPPS has been saying for some time (Just use our blog’s search feature with the term “Achievement Gap” to find plenty of examples). But, we didn’t write this opinion piece. It apparently comes from the newspaper’s own editorial staff.
Still, the newspaper gets it really right – first pointing to the huge proficiency gaps between white and black students in the local school system and then pointing out that if the state at least offered charter schools, which do much better for black students in particular in a number of places like Cleveland and Atlanta then at least some of those very far left behind black kids might get a chance for a decent education.
Well said, Daily News.
