EPA takes aim at more than coal in Kentucky

The Environmental Protection Agency has taken aim at Kentucky on more fronts than just its $5.3 billion coal industry, which powers 94% of the commonwealth’s electricity needs. Also in the EPA’s targets is Kentucky’s highway and bridge construction. Currently, the EPA has delayed construction and repair of some of Kentucky’s major infrastructure projects going on four years.

According to Senator Rand Paul, the EPA’s actions are not making Kentucky safer, but needlessly costing jobs and infrastructure:

“The question I have for the Senate is, ‘Has your government gotten out of control?’ Do we really want to live in a country where you have to count how many barnacles there are before you rebuild a bridge?”

Perhaps local control would result in more timely and efficient permit authorization.
