Why Kentucky needs charter schools: A parent’s compelling story

In her testimony on Monday, November 10, 2014 before the Kentucky Legislature’s Interim Joint Education Committee, Louisville parent Lynn Rippy says the public school system incorrectly categorized her adopted African-American son as having an IQ of only 100.But, Rippy didn’t accept that. Once she enrolled him in a private school that met his needs, her son went on to get high scores on the ACT college entrance test and now is in college.

Rippy’s son’s story would not have worked out so well if the family had not had the luxury of financial school choice, an option available to few Kentucky parents but about the only one available in the state today.
